Sagar: Hi Vikash, Welcome to AddictedMe and thanks for giving us your valuable time for this interview.

Vikash: Hey Sagar, thank you very much for giving me the great honor to be a part of your blog and a chance to interact with your readers.

Sagar: Let we start with the first question. For those who don’t know you and your work, can you tell us a little about yourself?

Vikash: Well, I am a simple small town guy from Bihar, with most of my education in Haryana, Delhi and Bangalore.  Basically an Electrical Engineer from Banglore, started off my career as a Business Analyst in 2008 and worked for 2 IT firms – KMG Infotech & Accenture. 2013, I decided to quit my job in IT and started giving time to CouponzGuru, a portal which me & my wife started in 2010. So, now I am totally focused on growth of CouponzGuru.

Sagar: What was the inspiration to start

Vikash: There is no inspiration as such, it just happened by chance.  One fine day I was searching for some discount coupons to get some discount on booking a flight ticket, but struggled to find a genuine website which could give me working discount codes. I came across many sites from US & UK, but they were hardly catering to Indian customers. So, I decided why don’t we have that in India and that’s where the idea came back in 2010 and today we are happy to provide coupons & deals to about 5 Lakh Online Shoppers every month.

Sagar: Can you share your business model with us?

Vikash: We are coupons & deal aggregators for Indian e-commerce and cater to almost all verticals, be that online shopping, travel, food orders and more. We have affiliated with over 200 online portals in India (some direct & some through affiliate networks). We list their latest coupons, deals & offers on our website and push those offers to our customers for free. We have a share of commission from merchants on the sales these coupons drives. Our main motive is to list almost all the discount deals available online in India, be that exclusive or generic. We don’t want our customers to lose onto any saving opportunity.

Sagar: How have you utilized Social Media Platforms?

Vikash: Frankly speaking, when we started off, we didn’t utilize social media too much. However, soon we realized our mistake and now we are very much active on Social Media, especially Facebook. We have a nice engagement at our Facebook page with periodic contest, quizzes, fun activities, special offers and more. We also utilize these platforms to answer our user’s queries and also to spread awareness about online shopping. I personally feel, that for any business, especially online businesses – presence on social media is must and one of the best way to reach out to their existing as well as potential customers.

Sagar: Are you using paid advertisements to promote your website?

Vikash: Yes, we have been using paid advertisements like Google Adwords, Bing Ads and Facebook Ads. We have also been using direct advertising through various blogs & portals.

Sagar: Any tie up with other sites in the industry. Your current or to be partnerships?

Vikash: As I told you earlier, we work on an affiliate model with most of the online merchants and charge them a commission for the sales we drive to them. However, recently we have started becoming coupon partners with new websites which are in their initial stage and we don’t charge any commission for them & help them reach out to new customers, few examples like, Finedealshopping and more. We are also in talks with few recognized websites to provide them white label coupon delivery solutions. Besides that, soon we will be sponsoring events to promote online shopping in India.

Sagar: Overview of your internet marketing strategy

Vikash: Like most of the online businesses, we have 2 priorities – First to retain our customers and second to get more and more new customers. To accomplish the latter, we are very aggressive on paid advertising and our SEO strategy; we have been getting almost 1000 new subscribers every day. To retain our customers, we have been consistently providing them the best, working and genuine offers. We also engage them through social media and also incentivize them periodically through contests, quizzes etc.

Sagar: We would like to know about your achievements till date.

Vikash: We are currently amongst one of the oldest and leading coupon websites in India. We are among the Top 2000 websites in India (as per Alexa). With a Facebook Fan following of 60k+ and email subscribers of 1Lakh+, we have a very strong customer base and are growing by an average of 25% month on month. Personally, our best achievement till date has been our delivery at the time of GOSF 2013 – we gave our partner merchants 6000 sales in 4 days.

Sagar: So what is your goal in the near future?

Vikash: Our main goal is to reach maximum no. of online shoppers in coming time. Also, we want to reach internet users who don’t shop online and motivate them to shop online. We are also expanding in other growing markets globally and in 2014 we will mark our presence in South East Asia in countries like Singapore, Malaysia and more. Having said all that, our major focus is to keep our existing customers happy and provide them the best possible service.

Sagar: How has the concept “ONLINE SHOPPING” changed in the last few years and where do you see its future?

Vikash: Well, the concept has totally changed in India, with the rise of the Internet and with the emergence of some really great online shopping portals such as Flipkart, Myntra etc people have started trusting in Online Shopping. Earlier people were not keen to use their credit cards online because of security reasons, however, that has changed now with the advancement in technology and things have become much easier. As per my opinion the key drivers to accelerate online shopping in India are

A better payment options, such as net banking, debit cards (earlier it was only credit cards) & most importantly Cash on Delivery!

The ease of shipping orders and return / cancellation process.

More & More VC’s entering the Indian market and showing confidence in this model.

The focus on customer service (which lacked earlier)

Last but not the least – use of coupons & discounts

The future looks quite bright to me; the ball has just started rolling. However, we will also see exit of many e-com players because of bad implementation. So in a few years from now, we will see the survival of merchants who mainly focuses on customers and customer service. I also see the momentum to slowly shift on other platforms such as mobile & tablets. By the way, we will soon be launching our mobile apps.

Sagar: What advice can you give our visitors when thinking about starting or promoting their personal or business sites?

Vikash: I have one piece advise – don’t create a business from your eyes – See, Think and Execute with Customers in Mind, everything else stands next! All the best!
