Here are a few off page SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques that you should know if you want to rank your blog up the Google search engine results pages. Take each point under advisement, as going nuts and doing them too much will get you nowhere.
10 Off Page SEO Techniques
1 – Off-page backlinking will and does happen organically
People seem to forget this fact and concentrate too much on creating backlinks themselves. If you are popular and people like you, then they will start linking to you and talking about your website and mentioning you on social media networks. It is okay to run backlink campaigns, but if you concentrate more on pleasing your reader, then you are going to have more luck in the long run.
2 – Getting people back and using your RSS feed should be your main priority
Being popular is good, and getting people back to your website is better. An RSS feed is going to get people to come back to your website, so install one and make sure you keep it updated. If you do this then you are going to attract people back, they will become fans, and the off-page SEO stuff will happen organically.
3 – Don’t create backlinks that are post specific if you switch your post locations
If you are going to switch the location of posts then you need to be very careful about creating backlinks to them. Creating broken backlinks is bad SEO business, and having your broken backlinks lingering around on the Google index with nothing to do will harm your SEO.
4 – Anchor text tells the search engine what the blog is all about
This means that if anchor text is pointing at your website from backlinks on other domains and it is not on message, then you are basically messing up your own SEO. The anchor text should be at least semi descriptive and you should be able to tell what the web page is about by looking at the anchor text of the backlink.
5 – Stick to a theme and your Off page SEO will work a lot better
If you switch themes too often, then older backlinks will not make any sense and Google will start to dilute your SEO value in its index to compensate. Stick to the same theme within your blog and everything will be roses.
6 – Social media is more for brand building and not for SEO value
Remember that to be popular is a good thing because SEO elements will start to come to you naturally. With that said you should remember that social media is more for building a reputation and getting popular than it is for trying to get backlinks.
7 – Directories with your blog in are very handy
There are directories online that shows lists of blogs and give links to them. So long as these are no part of a black hat SEO scheme then they are very handy for your SEO. You can wait until you are popular enough for people to put your blog on there of their own accord, but it is far easier if find a few blog directories and ask the owner to include you in there too.
8 – Link exchanges are a good idea in moderation
This is also known as reciprocal linking and it works because both you and the person you are swapping with have an incentive to keep the links going. You both have good reason to swap and keep up the link, so you get a backlink for as long as you keep the other person’s link. It is a good deal and is good for your SEO.
9 – Run a small but occasional Google AdWords campaign
This is because it seems to have a positive effect on your SEO when you run the occasional but a routine Google AdWords campaign. You do not have to spend much, just add a few adverts and get a bit of traffic. It helps improve your popularity and Google starts paying a little more attention to the pages that you point the adverts at.
10 – Sign up with Google+ and Facebook so you can post excerpts
Signing up with Google+ is something you should do because Google are bound to make it mandatory at some point anyway. You should sign up with Facebook as Google does take what is said and done on Facebook with a bit of seriousness. Sign up and post experts of your blog onto them every week. It allows people to get a taste for your blog so that maybe they become fans of it and start backlinking to it and mentioning it on social media.
